About Us

Hong Kong Macau and Myanmar Chamber of Commerce & Industry ("HKMMCCI") is a non-government, non-profit limited organisation that engages to promote the common interests of the Hong Kong, Macau and Myanmar business communities.  It is founded by Mr Richard Tao, Chairman of HKMMCCI and Dr Khin Wan LIN, President & Vice Chairman of HKMMCCI in light of the rapid economic growth in Myanmar and the keen interests of Hong Kong, Macau and Myanmar companies for business cooperation.

The establishment of the HKMMCCI is based on the support of the respective ministries in the Union of Myanmar through The Consulate General of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Hong Kong SAR which also covers the Macau SAR.

Mission

The HKMMCCI’s primary mission is to promote the common interests of the Hong Kong, Macau and Myanmar business communities.  As one of the foreign chambers in Hong Kong, we dedicate ourselves to encouraging international trade, investments and cultural exchanges, as well as further cooperation with government bodies and other chambers of commerce to exchange information and pursue common goals.

Some of our other objectives are:Develop networks, relationships and partnerships among members. Provide a forum for exchanges of views and the identification of new opportunities for trade and investment. Organise promotional activities and public information programmes in Hong Kong, Macau and Myanmar to promote better understanding of business opportunities in, but not limited to, international trade, investments, tourism and cultural exchanges. Cooperate with relevant government bodies, chambers of commerce and other parties to exchange and disseminate information and pursue other common aims. Canvass members' views and to represent them to government policymakers and other appropriate parties.

Co-Founders’ Message

Dear Members & Friends:

The Hong Kong Macau and Myanmar Chamber of Commerce & Industry (“HKMMCCI”) is a new Chamber mandated in 2002 by the government in Myanmar and subsequently supported by the Consulate General of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to register formally in 2015 in the Hong Kong SAR to recruit and assist members from the two Special Administrative Regions in China’s industrious Pearl River Delta through introduction and referrals to counterparties in Myanmar.  Hong Kong and Macau also have the distinction of having had members of its business communities already established businesses and their presence in Myanmar for many years and can in turn provide experience sharing through the Chamber platform.

Our goal is to work closely through the Hong Kong Government of the SAR and its regional Economic Trade Offices (“ETO”) to promote the commercial and cultural ties between Myanmar, Hong Kong and Macau, especially in the context of the ASEAN Economic Community and China’s Belt and Road Initiatives in the coming years.  HKMMCCI has been endorsed by the Myanmar Consulate General in Hong Kong for membership to the International Business Committee (“IBC”) which the Hong Kong SAR government's Chief Secretary chairs, as there is only one representation for each country’s chamber permitted on the IBC at any time.

The Hong Kong Trade and Development Council (“HKTDC”) has also been our valuable partner cooperating with our co-founders to work with the ETO in their two missions to Myanmar in 2013 led by Financial Secretary John Tsang and 2015 jointly led by Minister for Development Paul Chan and Sr Hon. Tony TSE Wai Chuen, HKSAR Legislative Council Member.

Last but not least, the HKMMCCI treasures the presence of scholars from Myanmar studying in various universities and tertiary education centres in Hong Kong.  In 2015, the Consul General U Zaw Zaw Soe initiated the first gathering of such scholars at the Consulate offices for the HKMMCCI to introduce its mission.  The scholars then introduced themselves individually, their origins from the diverse regions and states of Myanmar as well as their aspirations and plans for the future, which involved returning to Myanmar to work with economic, education and youth development.

If you are not yet our member and considering Myanmar as a future destination for commerce or cultural interests, I would highly recommend you to contact us. This would provide you an important resource for referrals and opportunities in meeting like-minded people.  Myanmar is undergoing a historic change and modernisation – the HKMMCCI and its members and associates can be one of your key strategic channels to be part of the future of this Golden Land.
